Who is eligible for Triton CORE services?

Triton CORE serves current students who are physically located on campus. 

What are the hours of operation for Triton CORE?

Triton CORE is operational for deployment from 10:00am - 8:00pm, Monday through Friday and provides consultation from 8:00pm - 10:00pm.

The campus community may reach Triton CORE through the dedicated Intake Line or UCSD Dispatch.

Who will show up if Triton CORE is unavailable?

Outside of Triton CORE operating hours, procedures remain with UCPD responding to all calls coming through dispatch at 858-534-HELP.

Will law enforcement arrive if I call for Triton CORE services?

While the goal of Triton CORE is to offer a non-law enforcement mobile crisis response model, law enforcement presence is determined based on a set criteria for safety. In instances where calls are initiated outside of Triton CORE’s operating hours, when Triton CORE is unavailable or imminent violence is present, law enforcement will respond.

What if I call for Triton CORE and the dispatcher determines that I need law enforcement, can I cancel the request?

Criteria to dispatch law enforcement is based on risk and safety. Ultimately, the decision to cancel the request will be based on the safety risk.

What locations will Triton CORE serve?

Currently, Triton CORE offers services within all locations on the UCSD Campus

What can I expect when Triton CORE arrives?

The team will come to your location. All team members will arrive in a Triton CORE uniform. A Triton CORE team member will conduct an assessment to determine how to best assist the student.

Triton CORE will collaborate on treatment options, offer recommendations and safety plan with the student. Our goal is to connect the individual to the service that is most appropriate to their needs.

What is the response time of Triton CORE?

Approximately 30-40 minutes is the expected response time. Please note Triton CORE does not respond with lights and sirens.

Will the Triton CORE team be armed?

No. Triton CORE will not be armed. Please remember that Triton CORE members are not law enforcement, rather, they are trained mental health clinicians trained to assist you in your time of need.

How is information documented to ensure confidentiality?

Triton CORE documents all information in EPIC which is a secure platform designed to manage Protected Health Information. For those that call in to Triton CORE through dispatch they are not required to give their full names at the time of referral in order to protect their confidentiality.  

What if the person I’m concerned about is undocumented?

Federal law protects student privacy rights, and the California Constitution and statutes provide broad privacy protections to all members of the UC Community. The University will not release immigration status or related information in confidential student records without permission from a student, to federal agencies or other parties without a judicial warrant, a subpoena, a court order or as otherwise required by law. 

The University’s medical centers treat all patients who require services without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, citizenship or other protected characteristics.

Is there a cost for Triton CORE services? Will I receive a bill for services or transportation?

There are no financial costs to students receiving Triton CORE services. 

What does Triton CORE do if they arrive and the person does not want to engage or asks the Triton CORE team to leave?

Triton CORE services are consensual and collaborative. Individuals are not required to receive support from Triton CORE if they don’t wish to. If there is an imminent safety concern, law enforcement or Emergency Medical Services (EMS) may respond.
