Purpose of Triton CORE

beach.pngTriton CORE is a cross-university collaboration that aims to:

  1. Provide a mobile crisis response to support individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis on the UC San Diego Campus.
  2. Reduce visits to the Emergency Department, involuntary hospitalizations and non-consensual engagement with mental health services.
  3. Facilitate de-escalation that validates each individual's crisis and seeks to ensure that the least restrictive and most clinically appropriate action step is utilized.
  4. Provide a focused person-centered behavioral health response by trained mental health providers that reduces stigma, fear, and barriers to accessing mental health care, and to increase trust allowing individuals to feel safe reaching out for support.
  5. Reduce risk of arrest, criminalization, and traumatic encounters among students in crisis, by utilizing targeted mental health interventions aimed at increasing a sense of safety and agency.
  6. Increase collaboration among institutions and internal departments to facilitate a successful return to campus (when hospitalization is necessary) for the individual involved.
